Natalia’s Bio

Originally from the Republic of Moldova, soprano Natalia Turchin has performed in multiple countries, including Moldova, Romania, Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Austria, the Russian Federation, Italy, and the United States.

Her professional journey led her through one of Russia’s most prestigious music conservatories—the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg Conservatory. In addition to earning a degree in Choral Conducting, she used this opportunity to begin intensive classical vocal training. After auditioning for renowned Russian mezzo-soprano and professor Irina Bogacheva, she studied voice under Nina Nikolaevna Arsentieva.

Following her studies in Russia, Natalia moved to Romania to continue her opera training at the University of Music Bucharest under the guidance of internationally acclaimed Romanian soprano Iulia Isaev. She won first place in both the “Ada Ulubeanu” and “Dan Cumpăta” National Competitions.

Currently, Natalia is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in Vocal Performance at the University of Utah, studying with Dr. Robert Breault. She previously earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Southeastern Louisiana University, where she studied with Dr. Jennifer Mouledous.

During her time at SELU, Natalia performed in Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown, portrayed the title role in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon, and performed as Margaret March in Jason Howland’s Little Women. She received two scholarships—the 2022 NPAS Scholarship and the 2022 Travel SELU Scholarship.

Hailed as an “unparalleled talent in the world of opera” by a former New York Times and CBS News correspondent, Natalia made her Italian debut as Elvira in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri as part of La Musica Lirica’s 2022 Summer Opera Program. There, she had the opportunity to work with American conductor Maestro Joseph Rescigno, esteemed stage director David Ronis, and Polish-born soprano and vocal coach Brygida Bziukiewicz-Kullig.

Natalia has participated in numerous masterclasses, including those led by Matthew Rose in Italy and Austrian opera singer and professor Gabriele Lechner in Baden, Austria.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated with distinguished international musicians, including Maestros Ubaldo Fabbri and Pietro Billi, tenor Robert Breault, and pianists Jeffrey Price and Jason Carlson, among others.
